As of mid-September, 81 companies have received the status of entities authorized to carry out air defense measures under an experimental private air defense project. For comparison, in mid-July there were 51 such companies — meaning the number of participants grew by 30 in less than two months.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense. In total, 92 companies from various industries and regions of Ukraine have submitted applications to participate in the project. Currently, 81 of them have already completed the procedure and received the corresponding status.
The experimental private air defense project was launched by the Ministry of Defense at the end of 2025. Its goal is to strengthen the protection of facilities that regularly suffer from enemy drone attacks by leveraging the additional capabilities of the companies themselves.
At the same time, private air defense is not an independent or autonomous structure: the groups formed by participating companies are integrated into the country’s multi-layered air defense system and operate under the command of the Ukrainian Air Force.
