Electronic warfare (EW) systems are an indispensable part of defense strategies. They are actively used for the creation of interference for drones, radio communication, and other means of control. And today there exist a multitude of types of EW, each of which has its own features and application, however, the most widespread are trench and dome technologies. We tell about them in more detail further.

The principle of work and application of EW systems.

Electronic warfare systems work by means of generating radio signals that suppress or distort the work of enemy drones. The principle of action consists in the creation of artificial interference in a wide range of frequencies (EW systems from BlueBird override from 350 to 1050 MHz). This makes the transmission of data and the coordination of the military actions of the adversary impossible or significantly complicates it.

EW systems are applied for the protection of strategically important objects, equipment, and military units from enemy drones.

What is a trench EW?

A trench EW is an electronic warfare system intended for the protection of important objects in defensive positions. Its main characteristics:

Mobility and flexibility. The system is easy to install and move. This is important in conditions of trench warfare.

Hidden placement. Thanks to the installation of the EW directly in the trench and the possibility of extending out the antennas, the system has a high degree of camouflage.

Directional and omnidirectional antennas. They ensure the precise suppression of the signal in certain directions and create general interference over a wide territory.

By the way, from us you will find the EW “Hrets” 5ML, 3MTs, 4M, and 3M. They are perfectly suited for quick deployment during offensive operations or the protection of defensive positions.

What is a dome EW?

A dome EW is an electronic warfare system intended for the protection of strategic objects, equipment, and so on. The main characteristics:

Quadrifilar antennas. They create a protective dome that covers all 360 degrees for the maximum coverage of the territory.

Long-lasting protection. They work on a constant basis, not requiring regular movement or reconfiguration.

Mobility and quick deployment. The systems are easy to install and deploy in combat conditions, in a vehicle, or in a trench.

Comparison of trench and dome EWs.

Radius of action. Trench EWs, just like dome ones, can create protection in the form of a “dome” thanks to quadrifilar antennas that can be placed in trenches and on the roofs of vehicles.

Goals of use. Trench EWs are suitable for mobile units and quick tactical operations. Dome EWs  protect critical infrastructure, military equipment,  personnel, and so on.

Types of antennas. Trench ones use both directional and omnidirectional antennas for pinpoint or wide suppression of signals. Dome ones are equipped mostly with omnidirectional antennas.

By the way, EW systems from BlueBird can be equipped with collinear, quadrifilar, sector, and patch antennas that emit signals that hinder the work of enemy drones.

Conclusion.

Overall, the choice between trench and dome EW systems depends on concrete tasks. A trench EW is suitable for operational combat tasks where mobility and quick deployment are needed. A dome EW is the optimal choice for the prolonged protection of critically important objects of infrastructure, equipment, and so on.
