Material assistance for servicemen is a one-time financial support that the state provides in cases when a fighter or his family finds itself in difficult social-household circumstances.

According to the data of the Ministry of Defense, such assistance can be provided to cover urgent expenses: treatment, rehabilitation, the rental of housing, burial, the provision for children, or the overcoming of force majeure situations.

In fact, this is a mechanism that makes it possible for a serviceman to receive support when ordinary payments are insufficient.

Types of Material Assistance for Servicemen

Material assistance has several directions. Each of them provides for its own conditions and grounds for receipt:

1.Material assistance for resolving social-household questions

Provided by the report of a serviceman. According to the resolutions of the Ministry of Defense, it can be paid once a year in an amount that is determined by the commander of the unit and the financial body.

2.Assistance in connection with a wound, contusion, mutilation

These are payments for the military who received combat injuries and need treatment or rehabilitation.

3.Material assistance to the families of fallen servicemen

Can include funds for burial, as well as financial support for children and members of the family. Separate attention is worth paying to assistance to families in the case of the burial of a serviceman, since the state compensates a significant part of the expenses for funeral services and the organization of the burial.

4.Assistance in the case of especially difficult life circumstances

For example, a fire, the loss of housing, the serious illness of a family member. The grounds are determined on the basis of documents that confirm the situation.

5.Assistance to veterans after discharge from service

In some cases, veterans and the members of their families can also apply for material support, especially when there is a need for treatment or rehabilitation.

Which Servicemen Can Receive Material Assistance

Material assistance is available for all categories of servicemen if they have documentarily confirmed grounds. According to the official data of the Ministry of Defense, it can be received by:

  • servicemen who serve by mobilization or contract;
  • the wounded, injured, or those who undergo medical treatment or rehabilitation;
  • the military who encountered difficult life circumstances;
  • members of the families of the fallen;
  • veterans, in the cases defined by law.

What to Do to Receive Material Assistance for a Serviceman

The process of processing material assistance is clear and consists of several steps. According to the instructions of the Ministry of Defense:

1.Submit a report in the name of the commander. In the report it is necessary to describe the situation and add a request for material support.

2. Add supporting documents.

This can be:

  • a medical certificate or extract;
  • a certificate of wounding;
  • documents about the loss of property;
  • a death certificate (for the families of the fallen);
  • certificates from social services.

3.Submit the documents to the financial-economic body of the unit. They check the correctness of the processing and the grounds.

4.Receipt of the decision of the commander of the military unit. The commander approves or rejects the submission taking into account the needs of the serviceman and the available fund.

5.Receipt of the payment. In the case of a positive decision, the funds arrive in the bank account of the serviceman or family.
