On the sidelines of the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO, held in Kielce, Poland from September 8 to 11, the Ukrainian side displayed the launcher of the ‘Koral’ surface-to-air missile system — a domestically developed weapon positioned as a means of intercepting aerodynamic and ballistic targets.
The launcher is mounted on the chassis of a Czech Tatra truck. The system is being developed by the Luch State Kyiv Design Bureau, and its missile is intended primarily for intercepting aerial and ballistic targets.
According to the developer, in emergency cases the munition can also be used against radar-contrasting ground and surface targets. The missile weighs 450 kg and is equipped with an inertial navigation system, radio correction, and an active radar homing head.
Work on the ‘Koral’ began in 2016. Initially, the project was considered as a missile for a ship-based air defence system, and in 2021 Luch publicly presented its full-scale mock-up for the first time.
