The full-scale war in Ukraine became an impetus for the rapid development of military technologies, in particular in the sphere of surface and underwater unmanned systems. It is precisely naval drones that became a game changer of the war in the Black Sea.
This is stated by the co-owner of the company BlueBird Tech Valeriy Zarubin.
In the words of the top manager, the naval direction demonstrates one of the most outstanding technological breakthroughs of Ukraine during the war. Despite the absence of a classic naval fleet, Ukraine managed to create a serious threat for the Black Sea Fleet of russia, which before the beginning of the full-scale invasion was considered one of the most powerful in the world.
«At the beginning of the invasion, russian ships approached almost point-blank to Odesa — so close that they were shelled with artillery. Now the situation is radically different: the enemy’s ships are pushed back to the ports», — notes Zarubin.
Thanks to the use of surface and underwater drones, Ukraine managed not only to push the russian fleet away from the coast but also to change the very logic of waging war on the big water. Naval drones became an asymmetric response to the advantage of classic fleets, combining a relatively low cost, autonomy, the difficulty of interception, and the possibility of application by a swarm.
«The achievements in the sphere of naval drones are a truly high level. Just a few years ago we were very far from similar solutions. Today this is one of the key steps in the development of world defense technologies», — adds the co-owner of BlueBird Tech.
In the opinion of Valeriy Zarubin, the Ukrainian experience of waging combat operations at sea will have a significant impact on the formation of the military strategies of other countries. In particular, surface and underwater drones are capable of neutralizing the threat of even such symbols of military might as aircraft carriers or submarines.
«Similar systems radically change the military approaches of the war of the future. A huge aircraft carrier no longer looks like something absolutely invincible, since there exist technologies capable of hitting both surface and underwater targets», — emphasizes Zarubin.
