Disability payments are one of the key forms of the social protection of servicemen who lost their health during the execution of service duties or as a result of war. The state guarantees financial support to defenders, both male and female, in order to compensate for the loss of working capacity and ensure a worthy standard of living.
BlueBird Tech prepared this article for servicemen, veterans, and the members of their families in order to simply and clearly explain what is included in disability payments, which types they have, and who can claim them.
What Disability Payments for Servicemen Are
Disability payments are a complex of pension and social payments that are assigned to persons with an established disability. For servicemen, the order of the assignment of a disability pension is determined by the Law of Ukraine «On Pension Provision for Persons Discharged from Military Service and Certain Other Persons», as well as by the subordinate acts of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
The basis of such payments is made up of the disability pension, which is assigned depending on:
- the group of disability (I, II, or III);
- the causal connection of the disability with military service;
- the monetary support of the serviceman.
The goal of these payments is to partially compensate for the loss of income, support during treatment and rehabilitation, as well as ensure stability after discharge from service or the continuation of life with health limitations.
The Main Types of Disability Payments for the Military and State Programs of Support
Disability payments for the military are not limited only to a pension. Depending on the status and circumstances, several types of financial support can be assigned:
- Disability pension for servicemen
Assigned in the case of the establishment of a disability as a result of a wound, contusion, injury, or illness connected with service.
The amount of the disability pension for servicemen depends on the group of disability, the causal connection of the disability with the undergoing of military service, as well as the amount of monetary support.
- Pension for persons with a disability as a result of war
A separate category of payments for the military whose disability is directly connected with combat operations. Such payments have increased guarantees and supplements.
- State social assistance
Can be assigned in cases when a person does not have sufficient insurance length of service or under separate social programs.
- Supplements and surcharges
Provided for persons who require constant care, have the status of a participant in combat operations, or belong to special categories.
Disability payments are often combined with other forms of state support, in particular targeted programs of financial aid, compensations, and additional social payments that operate within the limits of the initiatives of eDopomoga and payments to servicemen, aimed at the comprehensive provision of the military and veterans
Who Has the Right to Disability Payments
The right to receive disability payments is held by servicemen and persons equated to them whose disability is established in connection with the execution of the duties of military service or participation in combat operations, in particular:
- servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- the military of the National Guard, the SBGS, the SBU, and other security structures;
- reservists and persons liable for military service called up during mobilization;
- the military discharged from service, if the disability is established after discharge but has a confirmed connection with the undergoing of service;
- persons with a disability as a result of war.
Disability Payments as Part of the System of Support of the Military
Disability payments are a mechanism of social protection guaranteed by the state for the military who lost their health during service or combat operations. A clear understanding of the types of payments and the grounds for their assignment makes it possible to realize one’s rights in a timely manner and concentrate on treatment, rehabilitation, and the return to a full-fledged life.
The comprehensive support of the military combines not only financial guarantees but also the development of technological solutions that reinforce defense capability. It is precisely in this direction that BlueBird Tech works, developing modern drone detectors, in particular the drone detector «Chuika 3.0», which makes it possible to detect threats in a timely manner and minimize risks for the military in difficult conditions of service.
