Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech has introduced two new directional antennas in the Yagi-Uda Lite series — models 750 and 915. The manufacturer announced this on July 20 on its website.
Both models are built on the classic Yagi-Uda design. This is an antenna that does not scatter the signal in all directions but concentrates it in a narrow beam in a single direction, providing greater communication range, better signal quality, and reduced vulnerability to certain types of interference compared to omnidirectional counterparts.
The main difference between the models is the operating frequency band:
- Yagi-Uda Lite 750 operates in the 730–840 MHz band, optimized for a center frequency of 750 MHz;
- Yagi-Uda Lite 915 is designed for the 870–1000 MHz band, optimized for 915 MHz.
The gain of both models is up to 9 dBi, the beamwidth is approximately 60–85°, and the weight is 75–85 g depending on the model. The company specifies that the antenna base is made from heat-resistant PETG plastic, which ensures precise element positioning and mechanical rigidity even under wind load or vibration. The active elements are made from brass for high electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance.
Both antennas are intended for digital and analog communication systems. They can be integrated into relay drones, ground-based mobile communication complexes, and stationary stations without placing significant additional load on the platform. The claimed advantages are low weight and compact size.
“For relay drones, the weight of every component directly affects flight time and payload capacity. The class of ‘lightweight’ directional antennas is one way to extend communication range without sacrificing the aircraft’s flight performance. Additional advantages include stable control channel and data transmission under conditions of active electronic warfare,” BlueBird Tech representatives commented.
To determine which model suits a specific system, the company recommends focusing on the operating band of the particular equipment — 750 MHz, 915 MHz, or other common bands (1.2 GHz, 5.8 GHz).
The Yagi-Uda Lite complements the existing antenna lineup of BlueBird Tech, which covers other frequency bands and polarization types: directional MOXON-R antennas at 370 and 430 MHz, the compact dipole FAT Dipole 1.2 GHz, the HELIX Lite 5.8 GHz circular polarization antenna series, as well as patch antennas for the 1080–1480 MHz and 5.8 GHz bands. This makes it possible to select a kit for a specific platform taking into account the equipment frequency, required range, and radiation pattern.
